PERFECT OMEN FINALLY PAYS OFF!

PERFECT OMEN FINALLY PAYS OFF

News Room 10:55 PM 23-Aug-2007

http://www.harnesslink.com/www/Article.cgi?ID=55347

It has been over three years and 21 starts in the making, but Perfect Omen
finally broke through for his first win on Australian soil when he scored at
Newcastle on Thursday afternoon (August 23).

The 7-year-old gelding last greeted the judge back on May 16/2004 when he
scored at Timaru in accounting for Temple Franco and Ohoka Ryan at the
completion of the 2600 metre assignment.

Lining up for his 21st start since leaving his place of birth in becoming a
member of the Mark Callaghan establishment, Perfect Omen had collected 10 minor
placings heading into his latest encounter.

Taken straight to the front by Callaghan, courtesy of gate two, Perfect Omen
was given little peace during the early stages of the 1609 metre event.

As a result the opening quarter was completed in a sizzling 27.7, which was
outstanding for C3-C5 pacers.

Callaghan was able to give Perfect Omen a rest during the second 400 metres,
which was recorded in 31.9.

The pressure again picked up after hearing the bell, as Colorise continued to
annoy the second elect.

With the third quarter wrapped up in 29.8, Perfect Omen had every right to
feel the pinch on straightening for home, but to his credit the son of Perfect
Art continued to find something.

Defying all attempts to run him down, Perfect Omen had four metres to spare
over Peacehaven Cottage, who enjoyed a soft run behind the winner from the
outset.

Grant Us A Babe was also close to the action from the outset in clocking in
third a further 1.5 metres from the action.

Perfect Omen completed the final 400 metres in 29.0 seconds for an overall
time of 1:58.5.

The win by Perfect Omen was his fourth from 55 starts while 15 minor placings
have also been recorded.

Marysia, who is the dam of Perfect Omen, is a daughter of In The Pocket while
the mare is Aberfeldy (Mark Lobell).

Foaled in 1999, Perfect Omen was Marysia's first foal
