The Beginning

One day I stumbled across an advert for a "giveaway standardbred" .. I sent an email straight away, the advert had only been placed a few minutes. A few days passed and I hadn't heard back so I continued my search for another Standardbred. The I recieved an email from the lady advertising the giveaway saying that I could come and meet him and if I liked him I could take him home. So we took the float with us and as we drove up the driveway I could see him and my heart skipped a beat. Up close he was a mess, he suffered Qld Itch quite badly and he had not been treated properly nor had he been rugged. His face had big pit holes in them with skin missing everywhere, he had no fur on his ears, infact both of them were raw to the skin and he had simply just been covered in Zinc, along his back where scabs, hairless patches, his tail had been completely rubbed out and had sores all through it, his mane was shaved right back and it was full of dandruff, sores and scabby bits. He looked at me, walked over and parked his arse right in my face, at first I wasn't sure what he was trying to do, until the lady said he just wanted me to scratch his bum and with that I fell in love and I could not leave him there. He walked straight on the float and just stood there waiting to leave, hay bag inside he was happily eating away for the next half hour trip. We got him home and he just walked straight off the float and stood there. I took his halter off and let him walk around, however he just stood with us all passing himself around for scratches, and then he did the most funniest thing when someone scratched him on his very itchy spot he started literally singing with his mouth wide open in sheer delight. He came with the name Omen, and even though I think finding him was an Omen I certainly didn't think the name suited him. When my husband first layed his eyes on him, he said " he looks like a moose" because he had all this cream on his ears that were hideous to look at and he looked out of proportion, and hence he was named " Moose ".... to this day his name suits him , whilst he wears his white hooded mask to protect his ears , he certainly looks like one.
